Governor Walker recently appointed new secretaries to the Department of Safety and Professional Services and to the Department of Financial Institutions. Laura Gutierrez was appointed in February as the Secretary of DSPS. She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Carroll College and a Master of Arts in Leadership and Policy from Marquette University. She also completed the District Administrator Licensure Program at Cardinal Stritch University and received her Superintendent license in 2016. Secretary Gutierrez previously most recently served as Vice President of Academic Affairs at St. Anthony School in Milwaukee. Secretary Gutierrez replaces Secretary Ross who now heads the Department of Transportation.
Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) Deputy Secretary Jay Risch will serve as the next secretary of the DFI. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at UW Madison. He’s worked for Senator Alberta Darling and former Senator Cathy Stepp. Prior to serving as the deputy secretary of DFI, Risch worked as the Government Relations Director for the Wisconsin Bankers Association. Risch will take over as Secretary of DFI on March 6, 2017.
