In HUD’s June newsletter, some common home installation problems were reported in states such as Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming and Nebraska.  HUD is randomly monitoring installations in HUD program states and also in states that have their own installation programs.  Those problems included:

  • Improper grading around the home
  • Improper cap blocks
  • Tie downs that exceed 60 degrees
  • Lack of approved alternative foundation designs (foundation plans not found in the manufacturer’s instruction manual)
  • Lack of proper reporting to HUD upon home sale and installation (This is required in HUD monitored states.)

The Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services has informed Wisconsin Housing Alliance that HUD is planning to complete random home installations in Wisconsin in September of this year.
