If you use the Department of Safety and Professional Service’s Manufactured Home Records Search to verify whether there’s a lien holder on a home, be aware that the process has changed. Previously, you could search by the owner’s last name, however, due to privacy concerns, the lien holder’s name and address is no longer listed by this simple search. But you can still find it.
Search by the owner’s last name, like usual. Then take the “Vehicle ID” listed in the search results and enter it in the box for “Serial Number” on the DSPS Manufactured homes information search page.
When you enter the Identification Number/Vehicle ID in the Serial Number search box, it should then list a lien holder, if there is one. Addresses, however, will no longer be listed there, so you will need to contact DSPS at (608) 264-9596 to get the lien holder’s address.
This document shows better step-by-step instructions for this process. If it is simplified, we will let you know.
